Mission

The mission of Red Cloud Indian School, Inc. (RCIS), a Catholic institution administered by the
Jesuits and the Lakota people, is to develop and grow as a vibrant Church, through an
education of the mind and spirit that promotes the values of the Lakota culture. RCIS includes
two elementary schools, a high school, The Heritage Center, and six churches on Pine Ridge
Indian Reservation in SW South Dakota. By integrating both Lakota culture and heritage with
spiritual beliefs and practices from the Lakota and Catholic traditions, RCIS aims to educate
both the mind and the heart of its students, parishioners, and staff, creating leaders of tomorrow
with competence, conscience, and compassion.

Position Summary:
This faculty member will work in Red Cloud Indian School teaching, mentoring and working
collaboratively with peers.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
A. Essential Duties:

1. Teach assigned classes 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade
2. Partner with other faculty
3. Provide homework assistance to students
4. Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress
5. Participate in school activities including ASP 2 times per week
6. Actively participate in staff meetings
7. Complete all student record keeping responsibilities including grading,

assessments and behavior using the Infinite Campus system
8. Integrate Lakota and Ignatian spirituality into classroom pedagogy
9. Other duties as assigned

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
A. Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.
• SD Elementary Education Teacher Certification Preferred
• or Demonstrate applied for SD Elementary Alternative Certification

B. Physical requirements: Ability to sit at a desk and use a personal computer, telephone or
other desktop office equipment—85% of work time, walking—10% of work time, bending at
the waist and lifting less than 5 lbs.—3% of work time, bending at the waist and lifting 5-1lbs. 2% of work time.
